Asked a question recently

Which ports need to be opened between the head node and the edge director in a Bright Edge setup?

Where am I?

In Bright Computing, Inc. you can ask and answer questions and share your experience with others!

The following ports need to be opened:

DescriptionProtocol/PortPurpose / Remarks
SSHtcp/22SSH access to the edge director.
CMDaemontcp/8081CMD communication between head node and edge director, and to access BrightView.
Rsync

tcp/873

udp/873

Source ports are random. Used if RSYNCDAEMON is set as provisioning transport.
Syslogudp/514Edge director to head node.
OpenVPN

tcp/1194

udp/1194

If using VPN.
ICMP pingicmpHead node will ping the edge director as part of status checks.
LDAPS

tcp/636

udp/636

If using Bright LDAPS server.
TCP pingtcp/2Prior to 8.2, the head node will send TCP SYN to the edge director for health checks.

Aside from the above, ports specific to your configured workload managers need to be opened as well. For example, when using Slurm, you need to open the following ports:

Port/ProtocolPurpose/Remarks
tcp/6817slurmctld from head node
tcp/6818slurmd in edge nodes

You may have to consult the respective manuals for the workload managers you configure for any additional ports that need to be opened.
